Employers need to be aware of this, and employees need to know their rights.<\/p>\n<p>If you are an employer, it\u2019s vital to understand that you can only reorganize your workforce if it doesn\u2019t violate any anti-discrimination statutes.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"what-are-the-common-reasons-for-redundancy\"><\/span>What Are the Common Reasons for Redundancy?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are many reasons why a position could be made redundant. Here are some of the most common:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Another company has bought out your business, and your role is no longer required<\/li>\n<li>The role that you were initially hired for no longer exists<\/li>\n<li>The business you work for is closing down<\/li>\n<li>The business you work for is moving locations<\/li>\n<li>New technology has come along, and the role you were hired for is no longer relevant or necessary<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"what-are-your-rights-if-you-are-made-redundant\"><\/span>What Are Your Rights If You Are Made Redundant?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As mentioned above, employees must know their rights if they are made redundant.<\/p>\n<h3>Collective Redundancies<\/h3>\n<p>If the business you work for has 100 or more employees, then employees must be given 60 days\u2019 written notice under the WARN act.
